The Sunday Theatre drama " Mikami Sensei " (TBS, Sunday 9pm) starring actor Tori Matsuzaka will begin on January 19th. Matsuzaka plays Mikami Takashi, an elite Ministry of Education bureaucrat who graduated from Tokyo University and becomes a high school senior homeroom teacher. This is Matsuzaka's first lead role in a Sunday Theatre drama.
Takashi Mikami, a bureaucrat at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, who wants to change the Japanese education system, is ordered to transfer to Rintoku Gakuin, a private high school, and becomes the homeroom teacher for Class 2, Year 3. For an elite bureaucrat, this is a demotion. However, Mikami takes to the podium, saying, "Even if you are on the side that creates the system, you can't change education. So you have to speak up from the field and destroy the system from within." This is the story of a man who leads an 18-year-old high school student living in the Reiwa era and stands up against authority.
The script is an original by Roba Shimori. This will be their first collaboration since Matsuzaka's starring movie "The Journalist." Shimori will be writing the script for a prime-time drama series for the first time. Kazutaka Iida, who has been in charge of popular Sunday Theatre dramas such as "VIVANT" (2023), will serve as producers.
Riho Yoshioka will play Riho Yoshioka Koreeda, assistant teacher of Class 2, 3rd year at Rintoku Academy, Takaya Sakoda, the head of the 3rd year who failed the national civil service exam, and Kazuki Kitamura will play Masuda Masuda, the chairman of Rintoku Academy. The students of Class 2, 3rd year, will be played by Daiken Okudaira Okudaira, Kenta Jigen by Airu Kubozuka, Haruka Chigira by Akari Takaishi Takaishi, and Sakura Yoshiyanagi as Sakura Kiryu.
In the first episode...Takashi Mikami (Matsuzaka), a bureaucrat from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, stands at the podium of class 2, third year, at Rintoku Gakuin. The class begins in front of 29 students. The students face each other with their own thoughts. A question posed by Mikami creates ripples that motivate the students...
